Pupils

Pupillage should be more than a box to be ticked. It should lay a foundation for a career at the Bar. At present we lack both the work and the numbers to provide such a foundation but that will not be forever. When we can offer pupillage ours will be a good one.

We will offer pupils a mix of classroom theory and practical experience. In addition to drafting and advocacy skills our pupils will learn something about management, marketing and financial planning. They will also learn bookkeeping and information technology.

Our pupils will spend some time in the clerks’ room so they learn how to handle a difficult client. They will also spend some time on secondment with a law firm and a patent attorney so they learn about litigation and drafting claims. Finally, they will also spend time with criminal and chancery chambers so they learn how the rest of the Bar works.

We shall seek accreditation for our training from a university so that we can offer a post-graduate qualification.
