A group of first year undergraduates formed a band which was noticed by a new recording company. The company offered the students a combined recoding and management contract known as a “360” or “multiple rights agreement.” It urged the students to seek independent legal advice. The students consulted one of their tutors who introduced them to me.
I spent a couple of hours with the students in conference and took them through the contract. I followed up my oral advice with a written agreement identifying the clauses that needed to be amended.
The changes were agreed and the contract was signed. Some months later I was invited to listen to the band’s first single on “YouTube.”
